Building the compliance service every business will quietly depend on.
Software keeps getting cheaper. Licensed experts who take responsibility for getting compliance right do not. Plain Dot bundles both into one accountable service at the lowest defensible price in each domain. We started with 1099 — mandatory, recurring, expensive when it breaks.
Every business runs on regulated rails.
Tax filings, accessibility standards, product testing, privacy disclosures, excise reporting, beneficial ownership — today a patchwork of point tools, agencies, and consultants stitches these rails together. None of it speaks the same language.
The next decade collapses that patchwork into one operating layer: AI-native services that read regulatory change, generate the right artifact, and put a licensed expert on the edges that need one. Plain Dot is building that layer, one regulated domain at a time.
Tax compliance, consolidated.
We started where the pain was loudest and the data cleanest. The IRS moved to IRIS; most filing tools didn't move with it. 1099 mismatches still trigger B-Notices months after filing. Most companies still file Form 720 on paper. ACA reporting still lives in a separate vendor. We consolidate all of it — 35 IRS forms today, more as IRIS expands.
Same model, every regulated domain.
The same model — software, AI, licensed experts, lowest defensible price — works for any compliance domain that meets three tests:
- Government-mandated, with real penalties for getting it wrong.
- Recurring, with regulatory updates that punish stale software.
- Currently served by expensive consultants, brittle tools, or both.
ADA and WCAG audits pass that test. Form 720 passes it. Product testing for consumer brands passes it. FinCEN beneficial ownership passes it. We launch them in the order customers ask, not the order an analyst report suggests.
Available as an API and an MCP server.
Everything we build also ships as an API and an MCP server. Accounting platforms, vertical SaaS, internal-tools teams, and agent builders can embed Plain Dot's TIN matching, 1099 filing, W-9 collection, or Form 720 the same day they sign up.
Now · Next · Later · Horizon.
1099, TIN matching, W-9, Form 720, API Rails. End-to-end IRIS A2A filing, corrections, recipient delivery, audit trail.
LLM-assisted ingestion that turns contracts and ledger exports into form-ready records.
Default candidate: ADA / WCAG audits via partner network. Continuous compliance signal across active domains.
And the rails layer for everyone else. A small number of operating services, one accountable team.
A small team in a regulated category.
Karan Gandhi leads Plain Dot. He has spent the last decade building systems at the seam of software and regulation — payments, identity, and tax. The team is small, technical, and accountable. We don't subcontract the compliance work, and we don't ship anything we wouldn't run on our own books.
Software, AI, and licensed experts sit on one team. The people who built the pipeline answer the support thread when an IRS acknowledgment comes back wrong.

Built in New York's Capital Region.
Plain Dot is based in Niskayuna in the Albany–Schenectady–Troy corridor. The region blends great universities (RPI, Union, UAlbany, Siena), a growing tech ecosystem, and easy access to the outdoors along the Hudson and the Adirondacks.
